Spotless Car Wash, for the
most part, is a profitable, well run business. However, there is always room
for improvement to better any company.
Issues concerning scheduling is the biggest struggle that Spotless encounters
on a daily basis. Having 2 full time
managers and 28 part-time employees leaves the scheduling to be a tricky
situation. Spotless’ managers have their
employees work off rotations and have their employees on-call each day, which
tends to be ineffective when trying to keep the operation flowing
smoothly. The only part that we do agree
with when it comes to their scheduling is the idea of rotations. Their employees are broken into 2 groups of
15 employees that are managed separately by each manager.
As far as recommendations
go, we suggest that Spotless Car Wash implement a level scheduling plan. By optimizing the number of employees needed
per work shift, Spotless will benefit both monetarily and
organizationally. Since their largest
days are Thursday-Sunday, Spotless will require the work of 18 employees per
group, using a level schedule to show how much overtime is needed will benefit
the managers and the employees.
Spotless employees work
part-time, with the exception of the 2 managers who work full-time. Using the level scheduling, it will also show
just how many employees are needed per shift and when each employee can
work. Since the employees work no more
then 30 hour weeks, a new schedule is put out on a weekly basis. Things like cold weather or rain allow for
fewer employees. Using a new schedule each week will keep this level scheduling system in check.
